Leigh Butler’s amazing Wheel of Time re-read is finally coming to an end, more or less, over at tor.com (SPOILER ALERT):

But all technical and stylistic questions and/or complaints aside, reading about Rand riding away, free of his pain and sorrows and burdens, being finally done and able to go about living a life he thought he’d never get… well. That made it all worth it. Maybe it’s not the cool thing anymore to have a happy ending, even a happy ending this bittersweet, but I don’t care.
Because it was an ending, and the ending Robert Jordan wanted us all to have, and now, at long last, we have it. I call it good.

What’s that you say? You haven’t been following the re-read? You haven’t read all 14 books?  More than once?
Uhh, no, wait, that’s me. (Seriously, though, check that link — Brandon Sanderson is a delightful fellow who spent a while talking to me and I was able to use exactly two soundbites in the piece — but the extended interview is up on our site, plus one with Jordan’s widow Harriet.)
And now, some fan art, because Moiraine is the bomb diggety:

The Trouble With Wonder Woman

Wait, this needs this!

Wonder Woman - guess which part of that name is the problem?

And some people will still think this is good enough, because when Gwen Stacy died on paper, she died as a woman who needed saving, not as an active hero in her own right. But you know what would have been braver? To have dressed her in the clothes she died in and then turned around to say: We believe that this character, this woman, matters more than a single famous moment in comics history that happened over 40 years ago. We believe she has proved herself worthy of our respect and recognition beyond her ability to die. Beyond her ability to teach harsh life lessons. Beyond her ability to provide hope and new resolve for the man who loved her. We believe she is a hero on her own merits, deserving of a hero’s story.
We believe in Gwen Stacy’s right to live.

Fashions of the Future as Imagined in 1893

Illustrations from “Future Dictates of Fashion” by W. Cade Gall that was published in the January 1893 issue of The Strand magazine.

At first I thought this was some “fashion of witches and wizards through the ages” type thing but nah everyone is supposed to dress like this. I wish everyone dressed like this.

nailed it

only 90’s kids will remember this

He could never have imagined the awesome society-altering power of jeans and t-shirts. We truly live a in the best of all possible worlds.
