…every show evolves over time and not every character relationship ends the way it begins, but let’s not beat around the bush; in the 1960s, black women and white men definitely did not have relationships on television, regardless of whether or not the white man was in fact a green-blooded alien. With that in mind, the route of the new film seems to have an entirely different purpose: to show us the ways we have changed for the better as a society. Which is just the way creator Gene Roddenberry would have wanted it.

You’re talking about boys raised on the Powerpuff Girls, on Pokémon, who see no reason to limit their avatars to classic male archetypes: Girls had Princess Leia, and boys had Han Solo. But the Brony generation gets both, and doesn’t see the problem. In fact, as fans they don’t even need human avatars: Anything with a face can represent a piece of you. That’s entirely new.

Sure, Harry looks more like James than Lily, sure, he’s got a bit of that Gryffindor bravado, but here was the perfect opportunity for Snape to make peace with his past. It’s true in more ways than one, specifically because Harry had also come from a home where he was ignored, abused, treated like less than a household pet. If Snape loved Lily so much, you would imagine he would want to do right by her son to honor her memory, wouldn’t you? But it seems that his hatred for James was much stronger than his feelings for Lily….
